Birds & Beasts Competition

There is a lovely exhibition on at the moment - 27 June 2012 -2 July 2012 at the Sidespace Gallery in the Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart. This is at 77 Salamanca Place. The exhibition is run by The Spindle Tree cooperative which has a shop in the same building. The exhibition includes entries by lots of craftspeople and artists who have made many different types of Birds and Beasts! There are gorgeous needle felted owls (that won the overall prize), beautiful big wallhangings featuring birds, and lots of little and large creatures.
I entered one of my pipe cleaner and wool creations and won a highly commended in the "Fable" section! Clever me!!   He is called "Once a Jolly Jumbuk" and he is a bit of a twist on the 'Waltzing Matilda' Australian fable. I rewrote the poem and it goes like this.....
Once a jolly jumbuk camped by a billabong,
Behind the trunk of a Coolibah tree.
He knew that stinky swagman would be there soon,
So he lurked in wait by the light of the moon.
Down crept the swagman heading for the billabong.
Up jumped the jumbuk and grabbed him with glee.
How do you like that- now you're in my tuckerbag?
Said the sheep as he dragged him furiously.
And his ghost can be heard as he struggles in that tuckerbag,
'You dreaded jumbuk, you've done for me!'

With many apologies to A. B. Paterson

Hope you like the exhibition! Many congratulations to the organisers and the very talented winners.
Lots of the little creatures are for sale and many are reasonably priced! Rush in now!!

Salamanca Market Stall!

The lovely and cute Pansy Fern and April dolls will now be available at Salamanca Market in Hobart Tasmania on Saturdays between 8.30 am and 3.00pm!
I am now a member of the fantastic "PriorityPool" of casual stallholders at Salmanca Market!
This means that I will be at the market most Saturdays but will be in a different location each time depending on stall availability etc. To see if I will be at the market and in what location please log in here as I will be updating the blog regularly!
My first stall will be next Saturday the 30th of June 2012 and I will be at stall #21 at the Davey St end of the market. This is just outside the Law Courts. Hope to see you there!
If you think you may have seen me at markets before.....you have! I was a regular at Salamanca between  2002 and 2006 before I moved to Adelaide where I was a regular stallholder at Rundle Street Markets.
So hi again to old customers and welcome to new ones. Come and see all the lovely little dolls I have been making. I know that you and a child you know will love them!
Look them in the eye  -  they are sure to make you smile!
