Salamanca Market February 3 2018

"What was Paradise? But a garden, an orchard of trees and herbs, full of pleasure, and nothing there but delights."- William Lawson

Gardens are great places and every garden needs fairies. 'Pansy, Fern & April' fairies would love to live in your garden. We will again be in attendance at Salamanca Market in Hobart this weekend, so anyone in need of a few fairies will be able to stock up. See you Saturday! If you can't find us- (we are all rather tiny ) please enquire at the info point on Salamanca lawns.

Salamanca Market January 27 2018

"Absence is to love what wind is to fire; it extinguishes the small, it inflames the great." -(Bussy- Rabutin)

'Pansy, Fern & April' dolls won't be available at Salamanca Market in Hobart this Saturday. Sorry doll lovers but the extreme weather we are experiencing makes outdoor markets a bit of a challenge. Heat waves and little dolls (and the small woman who makes them) aren't a good combination!
Hopefully I will be in attendance next week.
I will  however be working on my entries for the Huon Art Awards which are coming up soon. I am making a hand painted and embroidered doll this year as well as a painting. I used to make lots of these dolls years ago and thought it would be great to revisit. The picture is of one I did called 'Birdwatcher'- I did her a few times in different colour combinations. The blue one was based on the blue wren and the red was based on the crimson rosella.I make the body from calico and paint the details in acrylic paint. The clothes are hand embroidered and stitched on. I developed a technique where I paint and then varnish with waterbased varnish. Before the varnish is completely dry the surface becomes sort of pliable like leather so you can stitch the clothes on. If you leave it too long it hardens and becomes almost impossible to stitch through. This year I will be creating one based on the colours and features of one of the flowers native to these parts- the Tasmanian Waratah.
"Birdwatcher"- (Acrylic & Textile- 55cm tall)

Salamanca Market January 6 2017

Good news! (and happy new year!) 'Pansy, Fern & April' dolls will again be available at Salamanca Market in Hobart this Saturday! Find us in site 270 again - a centre aisle site near the Battery Point end of the market. I have been working on some new additions to my range of little chums- lots of black swans (look lovely flying in your window!) , Jack and the Beanstalk (with a removeable little Jack so he can go up and down the stalk at play time!) , Fairy Houses (made from felt and can hang up so tiny fairies have somewhere safe to live!), and I have also made a set of Christopher Robin and a few of his little mates with a lovely big tree for them to sit under (sheltering from rain or more probably sun with the weather we are having here at the moment!) I will list some of these new items on etsy soon - with pictures if course!
My lovely little dolls will be available at a new spot soon too. The 'Lovett Gallery' in Cygnet (southern Tasmania) will soon be populated with tiny dolls! For more info on this lovely community run gallery see www.haeg.org.au
